2001 Players Championship: This is better than most! Better than most!

During the third round of the 2001 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, Tiger Woods produced another shot for the ages. This one in particular was a near impossible putt on the famed 17th Island green. Woods almost hit his 9-iron tee shot, from 127 yards, off the back of the island green. From that position putting down a severe slope, it was difficult to get the ball to stop anywhere near the hole, while making the putt seemed out of the question.

Yet Woods got the putt to drop….See the amazing putt below

”I got lucky on the putt,” he said. ”I had a good line, but just slammed it in there somehow. If it did not hit the hole, it would’ve been off the green.”

-Tiger Woods

On the final day, Tiger won the first of his two Players Championships, one stroke ahead of runner-up Vijay Singh.  Because of bad weather, the tournament was completed on that Monday, March 26, 2001. In the final pairing with 54-hole leader Jerry Kelly, Woods played the final nine holes on Monday.
