On this day, Sir Nick Faldo captures his final PGA Tour win

On this date, Sir Nick Faldo earned his ninth and final win on the PGA Tour.  Notching a -12 under par and edging out Craig Stadler for the win at the 1997.  This win came after his incredible but lucky Masters win in 1996 after another Greg Norman collapse.  This win was big for Faldo, who, after winning the Masters, spent much of last year dealing with personal matters — he had separated from his wife — converted his newly found bliss into an impressive week of golf.

‘You have to be happy off the golf course to be happy on the golf course,” said Faldo

Sir Nicolas opened up the tournament with a solid round of 66, followed by a 70.  During the third round he navigated a 68 at the beautiful Riviera Country Club.

Faldo entered the final round with a one-shot lead over Stadler. The two remained close until Faldo birdied the par-four 10th while Stadler bogeyed. The lead went from two to four strokes. On the next hole, a par-5, Faldo sprayed the ball off the tee, but recovered by hitting his third shot, a wedge, to within a foot. He tapped in for the birdie to extend the lead to five. Stadler would not climb within three shots again.
