Lanny Wadkins Surges to Victory

On this day, In 1988 Lanny Wadkins came from five shots back with a 65 to take a one-stroke victory yesterday in the Colonial National Invitation tournament. Wadkins finished at 270, 10 under par.  This came after nine visits to Colonial without ever breaking par, but this time it looked like Wadkins had finally conquered Colonial.

It was the 18th victory of his 18-year PGA Tour career  & was worth $135,000 from the total purse of $750,000.  This  pushed his earnings to $447,465 for the year. Mark Calcavecchia and Joey Sindelar tied for second with former winner Ben Crenshaw at 271.
