On this day, In 1975 Jane Blalock won the $50,000 Colgate Triple Crown women’s golf tournament.  The event was held in mid December at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California.  The 35-year-old Blalock sank a 20 foot birdie putt on the first hole of a three-way sudden death playoff.  She edged Judy Rankin and JoAnne Carner after the trio had tied at 142 after 36 holes.  The Colgate Triple Crown was a highly touted year-end event that featured the top nine female golfers of the year.

“I got a little lucky and found my game on the second nine after a shaky start.” Blalock said after the victory.  Blalock credited to some of her success to hints she picked up from Johnny Revolta.  Revolta was the pro at Mission Hills at the time and is remembered for his win at the 1935 PGA Championship.  “He straightened out a few things I was doing wrong.” she said.
